I printed out postage for 3 different books this morning. Two were fine, and printed correctly, however, the third was a bit odd. While showing the options/weight screen, I put down 6 oz, and it listed out the postage for First Class as I would expect. However, when I printed it and looked at it, it showed postage for Media Mail. Looking at the money registry it did deduct for Media Mail and not First Class which would have been cheaper. What's done is done, I guess, but I wanted to let someone know that this was a bit off.

This just happened to me as well - but I had to use the "backup wrapper" because nothing happened when I tried the regular procedure.

You should report this in the feedback link at the bottom of the page so R&R can look into it.  I think they're being bombarded with messages right now, and I'm sure they aren't able to read all of the forum posts. But that does sound like something they should look into.

This is from the Help Center. Doing this will help in the long run!

Diane

  • To submit the correct weight of a book to the database:
  1. Scroll down to the bottom of any page on the site and click Edit Book Data
  2. Enter the ISBN for the book and click Next
  3. Enter/adjust the weight of the book (this will be on your postal receipt) on the next page, leaving any correct information in place
  4. Click  Submit .
This information will be submitted to our editing volunteers, and the database should be corrected in a few days.
Please know that any effort you make to improve the accuracy of the database is greatly appreciated.

This happened to me too and I reported it, and they say it is fixed now.

I just printed out postage, I had a book ordered plus a freebie requested so I had to change the weight.  After weighing on my postal scale, I entered 8.3 ounces and clicked print noting that it changed from first class to media mail.  After printing I noticed that what the weight actually read was 6 pounds 7.4 ounces.  So it is costing me nearly $5 to send two books.  It worked so well the first time I used it, it never occurred to me to double check before hitting print.

Lovely.

Live and learn, I will definitely be double checking the weight next time, especially if I need to change it.  How it entered any pounds at all I don't know since I never even clicked in that box, I just highlited the existing ounces and entered mine.  I was just going to assume I some how made the error this time, but after reading this thread I wonder?  I definitely will be very careful from now on, because even with my gas hog of a truck it would still be cheaper to drive to the PO.

Most of us have had "weight" issues with printing postage.  A few of mine have even had negative numbers in the oz. field.  I know Robert posted in the Beta Testing thread that they have been working on fixing this.  However, I didn't see anything mentioned about the postage or weight actually changing when you hit submit.   That sounds like a big deal and something that Robert would need to know about/look at.

I don't think these issues have anything to do with the weight amount listed in the book details.  Otherwise, I would think that Robert would have mentioned that we should submit a change through the change book data link, instead of saying he's working on the problem.  Also, his responses sounded like this was a glitch with the system and not something that applied to individual books.

All the books I have sent the weight was within 2-3 oz. of the actual weight. Even one book that I had entered without an ISBN.

I am sure these are all things that are being fine tuned!

All of my weight estimates have been very close too.

As I said for now I am going to assume it was something I did, because that isn't out of the realm of possiblities, but the next one I do I am going to be uber careful and see, if it happens again then I will report it as a glitch
