Partner Pair-Up Date: June 7 Mail by date: June 14 (hoping it arrives by July 4th!) Hello! This is a new PBS Swap, so if you have questions, please ask! As an Army Brat, I grew up in a patriotic household. I'm not talking politics--the two don't always go together. And I'm not talking about hot dogs and firecrackers; in fact, firecrackers aren't allowed on army posts. I'm talking about a genuine love for your country--yes, the flag-waving, hand-on-your-heart kind. I'd like to celebrate our nation's independence in true PBS-style--with a Patriotic Swap. Since this is the first one, I don't want to put a great deal on the "whats" that you swap, but there are going to be two "don'ts" to this swap:
So here are some things that you might mail to your buddy:
I'm not going to put a size or dollar amount on it, and I'm not asking that you state any preferences. However, you might receive something that costs less than what you mailed or something that you may not even really want. I want you to give and receive with your heart. I will pair folks up on June 7 and post the buddy list in this forum. The person you mail to may not be the person who mails to you. I will send a blast message out to the participants with all addresses. Please "friend" me if need be. You will mail to your partner, but of course you can mail to as many folks as you wish. Please be cognizant of the MBD--you have a week to mail. You could go ahead and get your items together ready to ship. Please post when you mail (tracking number optional) and when you receive. Okay! Let's go! Let me know in this topic if you're participating. Please send me your address. Since this is a new swap, I might have to make a few changes as we go along. I will post any changes in the discussion and in this post.

Beginning Memorial Day, I will post daily trivia questions related to this swap's theme. I can't promise a specific time that I'll post, but it will be during the day (probably before noon as I'm an early-bird). Whoever posts the correct answer first, gets to pick a number between 1 and 100. On July 4th, whoever gets closest to the number (doesn't matter if you're over or under), will win a copy of the following: Homefront Cooking: Recipes, Wit, and Wisdom from American Veterans and their Loved Ones Trivia Question 1: The first Independence Day celebration was held in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777. *Melanie picks #45 Trivia Question 2: The Liberty Bell is rung 13 times each Independence Day to recognize the original 13 colonies. *Patrice picks #27 Trivia Question 3: The Pennsylvania Evening Post first published the Declaration of independence. *Connie picks #76 Trivia Question 4: The Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence—written largely by Thomas Jefferson—in Philadelphia on July 4, a date now celebrated as the birth of American independence. *Jeanne picks #61 Trivia Question 5: To fold the American flag correctly, you must fold it into a triangle shape. *Connie picks #2 Trivia Question 6: John Calvin Coolidge, our 30th president, was born in Plymouth, Vermont on July 4, 1872. *Mona picks #25 Trivia Question 7: Although John Adams was the first president to occupy the Executive Mansion in November 1800, it was Thomas Jefferson who first celebrated the Fourth of July at the White House in 1801. *Heather picks #55 Trivia Question 8: There are 13 stripes on the American flag, which represent the original 13 colonies. There are 50 stars, which represent the 50 states. *Jeanne picks #79 Trivia Question 9: Bristol’s annual Fourth of July celebration, which takes over the town for the three weeks leading up to Independence Day, is the oldest shindig of its kind in America. (It even predates the Fourth of July being named a national holiday, which didn’t happen until 1870.) *Connie picks #45 Trivia Question 10: There were 56 signers to the Declaration of Independence. *Melanie picks #50 Trivia Question 11: Hot dogs are the most consumed food for 4th of July Celebrations. In fact, they are so popular that July is National Hot Dog Month. *Mona picks #3 Trivia Question 12: Star Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States of America. *Connie picks #7 Trivia Question 13: The people of France gave the Statue of Liberty to the United States. *Mona picks #31 Trivia Question 14: The Statue of Liberty's official name is Liberty Enlightening the World. *Connie picks #89 Trivia Question 15: The Liberty Bell is now part of the NPS and is housed in The Liberty Bell Center. *Jeanne
