Bob Krauss is an "old Pacific hand," the dean of journalists in Hawai'i, and the author of 15 books about the Islands. Through his column in The Honolulu Advertiser, he spearheaded the drive that saved the Falls of Clyde in 1963. He was a founder of the Hawaii Maritime Center, of which Falls of Clyde is a museum ship, in 1982.
During World War II., Krauss spent 18 months on sea duty with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He has written stories from more than 60 islands and atolls. In 1985 he sailed on board the double-hulled Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Hiikiile'a, and has reported her voyages among the islands of Polynesia for 20 years.
When he writes about the Falls of Clyde, it is from 40 years of association and friendship with her former first mate and historian, the late Captain Fred Klegingat.
