Ingredients
-
2 cups - flour (any kind, wheat is best)
-
4 tsp - baking powder
-
1 tsp - salt
-
1/2 cup - warm water
-
1 tbsp - cinnamon-brown sugar mix (optional)
-
1/2 cup - cooking oil (more may be added if necessary)
Directions
Sift dry ingredients in large bowl. Add warm water and stir until dough is consistency of bread (more water may be added if needed). Let dough sit for 30 min covered with towel in bowl.
Tear off balls of dough and pat flat or roll with rolling pin on floured surface until about 4-5 inches around and 1/4" thick or less, then tear or poke a small hole in the middle. (Dough will puff when cooked so thinner is better, and be sure to poke a hole in the middle so it doesn't burst due to air bubbles.)
In non-stick frying pan heat cooking oil to just hot enough to make water droplets sizzle, then fry bread 3-4 pieces at a time appx. 3-5 min per side or until browned. Remove from pan and drain on paper towel. Brush with butter while hot. Serve warm with honey or jam.
