A disppointment, but only because of a misconception on my part.

I was led by the end papers and introduction to believe I was picking up a book about indigo -- its source, its history, its connection with cultural and economic systems in Africa and how the creation of indigo-dyed cloth has been inextricably connected to women's work.

Unfortunately, what I got was a memoir by a young mixed-race woman who goes to Africa to collect pieces of antique indigo fabric. Interesting in its own way, but not at all what I wanted.
