Adam Godley is dying and his loved ones gather in the family home to be with him in his final days. Also gathered around Adam is an invisible (except to the eyes of Rex, the dog) circle of Greek gods Hermes, who narrates much of the story, and Zeus, who is drawn to Helen, Adams beautiful daughter-in-law. Who is Adam, really, and why and how is he connected to the immortals? This is an exquisitely written novel of ideas by a Man Booker prize winning novelist who, incidentally, writes near-perfect mysteries under the name of Benjamin Black. So approach your reading of The Infinities as a mystery asking to be solved, or at least puzzled over. And enjoy it.
