The Inn on Hanging Hill by Christy Barritt is suspenseful, beginning with a fateful night 15 years ago involving main characters Lindsay and Benjamin.
The novel then moves to present day when Lindsay returns to restore her family's abandoned inn. Bad things soon begin to happen and the message is clear - someone wants Lindsay to leave ⦠immediately.
As the story unfolds, readers meet an interesting group of secondary characters. Could one of them be the instigator of the mysterious events?
Short chapters that end with mini cliffhangers quickly propelled me through the story. This has plenty of unsettling events, but nothing scary enough to cause nightmares.
As with most suspense novels, I had to suspend belief about a few coincidences in the plot. The crime was interesting and unusual, certainly not something I anticipated.
