Each chapter is organized around key questions with explanations and examples throughout. · Chapter 1 provides an overview of the school environment in which inquiry learning is the focus. It describes how such a school differs from a conventional one and the role of the library media specialist in this school. · Chapter 2 defines the essential elements of an inquiry curriculum. It emphasizes the importance of questions that drive substantive learning. · Chapter 3 deals with school teams working collaboratively. It examines what makes these partnerships survive and thrive. · Chapter 4 zeroes in on two possible approaches to inquiry-focused instruction: 1) starting with themes or large concepts and 2) starting with problems or issues. It provides detailed explanations and scenarios of how both approaches are used in inquiry-focused projects. · Chapter 5 centers on assessing student learning in inquiry-focused projects. It describes different assessment tools and gives examples of the tools in practice. · Chapter 6 presents instructional strategies that can be used in these projects. It addresses the importance of dealing with diverse student needs and how technology provides a valuable tool for teaching and learning. · Chapters 7 through 9 highlight examples of inquiry-focused units, one each at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
