Another quirky mystery with convoluted plot that leaves you unable to guess who dunnit, and keeps you reading until the last page. I am really enjoying this series of American translater, Torrey Tunet, living in Ireland mysteries.

The writer seems to have the skills to weave a good tail. However, her choppy, overly dramatic writing with 2 page cliff hanging chapters (many) is a bit off-putting. Her main character seems a mystery still. She never seems to be fleshed out. She has been assigned a secret past that lacks interest and seems just a device. She thinks in telegraphic sentences. I liked the Irish detective of the town better than I liked her, although the premise seems to be that he is a sarcastic and obnoxious type. At least he is human and has thoughts and emotions, unlike the main heroine! Also, this same character, not Irish, seems to talk in the brogue! Weird. Overall, for plot, this book might receive 4 out of 5. But why the choppy, overly dramatic writing and cardboard characters?
I just read all 4 of these books by Dicey Deere and am looking for more. I really enjoyed them. They are written differently from most mysteries in that there are mostly hints that you get so that you wind up doing all the work but there are also lots of twists and turns so you are still surprised at the end.
