Two people with totally different careers are married and in love. But when her career takes a different path, necessitating a move to California while he stays in New York City, they begin to drift apart. Danielle Steel is careful as she draws the characters in her story, giving the reader a meticulous picture of each. We watch as the story plays itself out, Meredith and Steve try to make their marriage work, and their increased maturity as hard times come. A really wonderful book, and I enjoyed it very much.

Having had 46 previous bestsellers, Danielle Steel knows a good plot recipe when she's got one--namely, take a smart, beautiful woman who is dissatisfied with her loving but stuffy husband, add a romantic, usually older man with a true appreciation of her inner soul, then sit back and watch the melodrama unfold. In this latest novel, our heroine Meredith Whitman is a career-driven investment banker, our husband Steve a sweet physician, and our other man, Cal Dow, a high-tech business Midas. When Cal offers Meredith the perfect job in San Francisco, Steve encourages her to move across country, and promises to follow her as soon as he can. Meredith and Steve's marriage begins to crack under the pressures of the distance, and soon "irresistible forces" come into play. Don't expect profundity, although Danielle Steel can make even the most sordid affairs seem romantic, or at least entertaining.

ENTERTAINING! While using all of modern life's trappings to bring a fantasy world down to earth, Steel ironically shows us that the only truly irresistible forces come from within.

Stunning characters...dramatic tension...keep's readers turning pages.

One of my favorites by D. Steel! 370 pages. In this book, the husband is a doctor on the east coast, and his wife accepts a new job in San Francisco. He plans to join her he says. A bi-coastal marriage is what they end up with and this is where it all begins to unravel. At the core of this book is will their marriage survive this change, how well will it survive, and most importantly, will their love be able to survive all the changes and demands put on it?
