Another outstanding personal narrative of what it was like to be a Marine in the Pacific during World War II.

The author was featured in six of the ten episodes of "The Pacific" TV series. His role was played by actor Martin McCann.

Although, he was not present for the battle of Guadalcanal, Burgin rose from private to the rank of sergeant by the time the First Marine Division landed on Okinawa.

Burgin fell in love with an Australian girl when his division was resting there after Guadalcanal. Her letters sustained him through many a rough time. They were later married in the United States. I somewhat identified with this experience as my own father married an Australian girl. As a former Marine myself, I recommend the book.
