Frankly, I was disappointed with this book. Almost all the characters are two-dimensional, especially the Giant's wife. And where did the "mystery woman" with the beans come from? How did she reappear in the Giant's land? Will Jack meet her again in a sequel?
And do you really want your child to think it is okay to sneak into someone's house and take what you want, even if they did supposedly steal those things from your father as the mystery woman told him? How did he know that was even true? And even worse, if you are caught stealing, is it okay to kill the homeowner? What are we teaching our children?
If the Giant really did steal those things, it would be better to report him to the police. If arrested and convicted he could then make restitution, be counseled and rehabilitated to become a useful member of society.
I only gave it four stars due to the colorful illustrations.
And yes, I did read this book. :-)
