Just fiished Aretha--From These Roots, the memoir of Aretha Franklin, of course.  I enjoyed it, although regretfully it was published in  1999, 20 years ago, so her later and last years are not included.  She had a rousing career and reached many pinnacles and zeniths.  The books takes us along quite chronologically through her career intertwined with her love life intertwined with her family obligations, going year by year, song by song, amour by amour, etc.  I enjoyed most reading about her devotion to her father, and his devotion to her, and then the tragedy of his passing left me shocked and slack-jawed because I had no idea.

Re-reading a steampunk series Magnificent Devices, I am on the 4th book Brilliant Devices, it is such fun.  Also re-reading the Tony Hillerman books, began the Sinister Pig yesterday.  They take place on the Navajo reservation with a Lt. Chee from the Navajo Police and a retired officer Leaphorn solving the crimes.

Had I a Hundred Mouths by William Goyen. slightly disturbing short stories.

The Wolf and the Buffalo by Elmer Kelton.

An Unwanted Guest by Shari LaPena. Not my favorite.

the Woman In The Window by A.J. Finn, I didn’t like it in the first half, but am very glad I finished. I did not guess the mysteries at all, surprising to me. Well done

reading When The Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica. Only a third of the way in but a good premise.
