Ok voting is over!!

...and the winning book for the first book discussion is Jemima J. by Jane Green. I'm excited to read this book. It looks like it is going to be really good. :)

Use this thread to discuss the book after you have finished reading it. If you have already finished reading it feel free to join in with the discussions too.

Also, start thinking of what books you want to read for the next discussion. We can have another vote for the next book a little later. It seemed that people were interested in keeping this open for a few weeks so after that we will start to vote for a new book to discuss.

Have fun and get to reading!  lol :)

I just started Chapter 2 and it is really weird how is changes from first person to third person!

I did relate to how she is feeling in chapter 1 though. I have felt some of those same feelings before about wanting to lose weight.

Good Morning!  I started it last night, only got chapter 1 finished before falling asleep!  I'm not sure if that means the book didn't grab me or I was just really tired!!  : )  I'll give it another go today and see what happens.  Anyone else started yet, besides Jennifer?

I read this one either the end of last year or beginning of this year and enjoyed it..finished it in 1-2 days..seems like I read it at work during the slow times on a weekend! one thing that bugged me about it is she's described as humongous but I've weighed what she does and wore that size and known others who did too and I don't get it..of course I and they were 'fat' but I never  noticed it to the degree she's making it out to be...maybe it's a british thing?

Susanna- I think part of it is a British thing.  Ever see the movie Love Actually?  I love that movie.  However, one of the female British characters is called fat or cow alot, and there are a lot of references to her weight, and I don't think she's big at all.  In fact, I'd love to have her figure!  LOL  As for Jemima, in the book it says shes about 218 to start and 5' 7".  So she's taller and that would make her not look as big as if she were, say, 5' 2".   I think there is a bit of an exaggeration, too.  But, I'm thoroughly enjoying the book so far, and I hope everyone else is too!  :)

Okay Ladies, I got a little sidetracked. I got engaged last week and I have gotten so busy this past week telling family and friends and starting a new workout routine that I haven't gotten to far on the book yet.

I am on chapter 5 and am slowly getting into it but I must say that I CAN'T stand the way she keeps changing from 1st person to narrator. It is driving me crazy! Hopefully, I can get used to that soon so I can enjoy the rest of the book.

Who else has finished the book besides Mary? You all can feel free to start discussing it at anytime!

Okay, Jennifer wins for the best and most exciting reason for getting sidetracked.        Congratulations on your engagement!

I finished the book.  I always have a bit of trouble gettting into books with too many Brittish phrases, words, etc., but enjoyed this quite a bit.  She's fun!  I want to say more, but don't want to spoil it for others, so I'll wait 'til later.

It did make me feel fatter, though.  <sigh>  Oh well, maybe I can use that feeling for inspiration.  To keep me away from the Halloween candy if nothing else!  :o)

Cindy

P.S.  I have no suggestions for wedding planning books, as I've been married almost 30 years.  Good luck!

Thanks Cindy!! :)

I have started to do a lot of walking and it seems to be helping me lose some weight. I am hoping that the book will help keep me motivated too.

I'll read more of the book tonight. Who else has finished?

At first the switch between first person and narrator was kind of annoying to me, too.  But then I kinda realized that the narrator was Fate, or something like that.  That helped some.  and the book wasn't to heavy into British phrases.  That was good.

I finished it last night.  I read it in two days.  I couldn't put it down once I got used to the switch between narrators and things.  It actually helps to add a bit of mystery to the end of the book.  I absolutely adored this read and can't wait to start discussing it!!

So what did you all think of Jemima's roomates?

It's funny that in the beginning of the book, those gals were so perfect and dressed great, and by the end of the book, they looked and dressed like wannabees.  The more Jemima got comfortable with herself, the less those girls and their lifestyles was appealing to her.

This is my first time checking in. I started late and didn't know if there would be spoilers. Just finished and I probably held my breath through the last couple of chapters. After I got used to it changing from first person to narrator, I hated to put the book down. I had to make myself go to sleep last night. This was my first book by this author and I am totally impressed. I was so glad that Ben got turned off by that Alexia chick. Didn't want him to be married the next time Jemima ran into him.
