Author: Alexander Jones
When it comes to Bible translations, readability and reliability are what count; and on both counts, the original JERUSALEM BIBLE stands alone. This is one of the best bibles that you could have in your library.

This copyright version of 1966, contains easy to read and relate-to text, verse numbers in the margin, maps (in color and in black and white), a table of measures and money, and of course the deuterocanonical books - Wisdom, Tobit, Maccabees, and others.

It's so funny, because this bible was given to me by my mother, who praise God, is still living. I don't know when she got it, but the price on the cover says $6.95. Wow! Try to find The Jerusalem Bible Readers Edition today for $6.95! Godspeed to you on that one! Lol..

But really, this bible - in all of its grand eloquence - really is easy to understand. Here's a random sample passage, from pages 885-886, from the Book of Wisdom: chapter 9.

"God of our ancestors, Lord of mercy, who by your word have made all things, and in your wisdom have fitted man to rule the creatures that have come from you, to govern the world in holiness and justice and in honesty of soul to wield authority, grant me Wisdom, consort of your throne, and do not reject me from the number of your children...

With you is Wisdom, she who knows your works, she who was present when you made the world; she understands what is pleasing on your eyes and what agrees with your commandments. Dispatch her from the holy heavens, send her forth from your throne of glory to help me and to toil with me and teach me what is pleasing to you, since she knows and understands everything.

She will guide me prudently in my undertakings and protect me by her glory. Then all I do will be acceptable, I shall govern your people justly and shall be worthy of my father's throne... Thus have the paths of those on earth been straightened and men been taught what pleases you, and saved, by Wisdom."

HalleluJah.

See what I mean?! What beauty. What richness. What soft, gentleness. Only such truth can be found in the mind of God. You can't go wrong with this bible. :)
