Wow that was very open and honest. I always wanted to work at a video store. The key is advertising. The store has to strike curiosity in the everyday passerby. Hey, why not apply to work at another video store?
So I worked for a video store for two and half years, it was supposed to be only a temporary job after I moved back home to finish my degree. I finished my degree but stayed with the company to get into the company's management program. Things were going well until I contracted mono back in the fall, I was only gone for two weeks because I had run out of personal time and still sick after I got back. With the stresses of regaining my health and work being slow with the economy, I was given my pink slip, however with the promise that if I were to ever need a job again that I could gladly reapply... I'd rather keep on looking. Jillian Boris, video store employee, was fired yesterday from the slowing economy and customers no longer wanting to watch crappy movies. Twenty-five years old Jillian started working at the video store at first, simply as a temporary job two and half years ago before finishing her degree in Communications from the Unversity of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Bright and bubbly Jillian immediatley fit in with her employees and became a favorite of customers. She fell in love with the customers and her employees and enjoying the sometimes hectic pace. In the Spring of 2009 Jillian decided to take her career to the next level and take the manager in training posistion. Having been working fifty to sixty hours a week Jillian contracted mono and was out of work for two weeks. However after her return from her sickness, the stress of the workplace and trying to regain her health began to take a toil on Jillian's happiness at her job. It was not just Jillian however that was going through a change; the video store had also been put under new management and began seeing a significant drop in rentals after the holidays. Finally giving way to the disease of unhappiness in the workplace Jillian sucumbed to the fact that she had so much more potential. Even though it had been a hard battle and one that she had lost she left her head held high; convinced that there were better things for her. She believes behind some good friends; Jyll, Amber, Missy, Trae, and Adam. She won't miss the yelling customers, or the creepy old men who hit on her while renting their porn. She does leave behind the value of working incredibly hard at a job that many of her friends and family had always felt was beneath her. There will be no memorial or services, Jillian wanted to leave this job quietly and with her dignity as she moves into her afterlife looking for her dream job in the sky. |
