I hadn't planned to continue this series after finding "May Day" to be sloppy and disjointed, but I gave book 2 a chance after several people complimented the series. I'm baffled that anyone could give this mess a thumbs-up. It's practically unreadable. I enjoy cozies and recognize that the genre is meant to be fun, not literary, but this book was not an enjoyable read. The moments that are meant to be humorous are so poorly described, the moment is gone before it's realized. With seventy pages left, I wasn't even sure what the mystery was meant to be or why I was supposed to be interested. Truly painful stuff.

I found the book confusing because too much was going on. The plot and situations were amusing, some rolling on the floor funny, and the book is definitely worth reading, just keep a notebook nearby to track the details.

June Bug is the second in the Murder by Month mystery series. Mira James is a part time reporter for the Battle Lake Recall and head librarian in Battle Lake, Minnesota. Mira and her cat Tiger Pop have settled into the double wide trailer she is housesitting for her friend Sunny and taking care of Sunny's German Shepherd, Luna.

When Jason Blunt stumbles into her bedroom drunk, Sunny is not happy to see the man she had a bad experience with as a young college student. Jason lets it slip that he is back in Battle Lake to dive for the Shangri-La diamond. Local legend has it that a guest staying at the Shangri- La lodge had gone swimming with a huge dewdrop diamond around her neck and when she emerged from the lake the diamond was gone. Divers had searched to locate the diamond in the past to no avail.

The new owners of Shangri-La have started a contest to bring more tourists to the tiny town. In conjunction with rival Minneapolis newspaper the Star Tribune, they have buried a fake diamond in the lake and whomever finds it will receive a $5000 reward along with a free week vacation at Shangri-La.

In an effort to scoop the rival newspaper and find the diamond herself, Mira dives not only into the lake but the shady behaviors of both locals and tourists. A fast paced romp with fun, quirky characters.
