Great chapter book! The language is fun and descriptive. A fun way to help a child understand how to write so that your reader 'feels' 'sees' and 'hears' what is going on! Great historical fiction as well.
a true story of a simple horse who through pure spirit rose to greatness. His descendenats would become the Morgan horses, a line renowned throught the world.
Great for all young readers.
Marguerite Henry wrote several good books for kids about horses. This is a great story about how the Morgan horse came to be. Very well written and a great read aloud.
This is a true story about a runt horse that no one had confidence in to become much of a star. The young boy who befriends this horse is from a very poor family, barely able to survive, and Joels' attempts to try and get the horse he wanted so badly from a roughish kinda feller--but with a little help from friends, he was able to get "Little Bub" for his own. Little Bub loved his new master. Joel began hand feeding his horse specially prepared mash, rubbed him down and brushed his coat, and well, the end will have to wait. Excellent read for a young person - under ten approx. Anyone with the kknowledge of horxses can appreciate this bit of nostalgia, this is also the horse that became known as a Morgan - he became the father of the magnificent Morgan horse, and his genes continue on down today through many generations of exceptional horses.
I have the second edition .
This is a delightful story. A little boy travels with the schoolmaster and meets a horse named Little Bud. The story follows the boy through his life and the encounters he has with Little Bud during the time of the American Revolution.
