As a kid, I loved Ka-Zar. Who WOULDN'T love a guy making friends and hanging out with a sabertooth tiger? A guy so tough he could fight dinosaurs, and win?

Ka-Zar: The Burning Season isn't about Ka-Zar so much as it is about the Savage Land. It's about the tribes that inhabit the Savage Land, how they interact with each other, and how each views the World Outside and those who come from it â including, in some cases, long-time resident Ka-Zar. (For some reason, no one seemed to address the âoutsiderâ status of his wife, Shanna. Perhaps some of the tribes and/or their more vocal members are a bit misogynistic?)

It also addresses the morality of the outside world interacting with the Savage Land and its residents, as the United Nations discussed this during a humanitarian crisis where a drought was leading to famine and to death among some of the tribes. AND, as one might expect, it discussed the possibly ulterior motives of those choosing to provide âhumanitarianâ aid.

Recently, a young missionary was killed when he illegally visited an isolated tribe in the Indian Ocean, a tribe that had zero interest in dealing with those outside of their limited world. Ka-Zar: The Burning Season addressed this kind of issue, but it was published approximately 7 YEARS before the incident. Sometimes, comics can make you think. Sometimes, comics SHOULD have made you think.
