Based on the movie starring Clive Owen, this is an untraditonal version of the King Arthur story. It does not contain any of the usual magic & has very low key romance. If you liked the movie, I recommend reading the book.

Enjoyed this nontraditional view of King Arthur who is highly romanticized in most of the books I have read. True, the historical timeline is warped but the story spun by Thompson is, in my opinion, about as creditable as many others. John Morris, historian, "suggests on the basis of archaeology that a period of Saxon advance was halted and turned back, before resuming again in the 570s." (Wikpedia - King Arthur) The existence of Arthur is questioned by many historians but Morris notes that a man named Arthur may have ruled temporarily as Emperor of Britain.

No, I have not seen the movie but I enjoyed this book very much. I found the rendering of the Battle of Mount Badon, at which the Saxons were routed, particularly interesting. And, I found the closeness of the knights engaging. In all, I would recommend this read. I liked it.
