A very fascinating coming of age story of a young black American woman. Lori is a well educated woman who grew up in Wisconsin. She attended a predominantly white college and struggled to find her place in the world. Since she was young, she had a love affair with Spain. She longs to visit it and when she does during college, she has a love/hate relationship with the country. It's not the country she imagined it to be, but she finds love and hidden truths that bring emotional growth and happiness. This is a deeply personal account. It does drag at times in the middle, but stick with it. It's thought provoking and written in such a way that it's accessible to people of other ethnic backgrounds.
