Kirsten on the Trail continues the story of a nine-year-old Swedish girl who's family has come to live on the frontier in 1854. Kirsten has a secret Indian friend, Singing Bird. But while they are visiting, her little brother Peter sees them. Peter promises not to tell anyone, but blurts it out to Kirsten's mother. Kirsten is forbidden to play with Singing Bird. But Peter runs off and gets lost. When Singing Bird saves Peter by helping Kirsten find him, Kirsten's mother agrees that Singing Bird is a good friend. This is an outstanding historical fiction and teaches children to be kind.
