When I first saw this book on the bookshelves, I thought to myself, "Oh, brother!!! What a hokey, typical name for a romance story!!!" Fortunately, though, despite my thoughts to the contrary, I decided to pick it up and see just how "hokey" it really was!

Well, suffice it to say, I was hooked within the first few pages, and believe me, I have gotten sick of sanguine, la-de-dah romance novels and wanted something with more subtance, but this one had it all, and I just loved it.

I've read it a couple of times in my life, as it was so satisfying and well written. Years passed and I forgot about this book until one day I hooked up with an old friend, and we both remembered when we shared this book with each other, and I suddenly wondered where my copy of "A Knight in Shining Armor" had gone to. I searched all through my books, and couldn't find it anywhere! I had to have this quintissential romance/time travel book, so I searched on ebay, and behold, there it was! I re-ordered it, and now plan to keep this in permanent residence in my home.

A wonderful, enjoyable trip through time and a love that never dies!

Pick this book up and read it!

A great time travel book about an American woman stranded alone in England in 1988 and a knight from the 1500's who mysteriously appears always when the woman is in distress. Enjoyable, great romance, mystery and picture of the times in 1500's England. Not overdone on sex. Worth the read.

BOok was entertaining, but had one of the most annoying heroines ever. She lets men run all over her and falls in love easily. This is another story about the Montgomerys, but she doesn't seem to be a part of the family at all.

Good romance, but a little too "sweet" for me. I like darker, more intense.

A classic Deveraux. She never repeated this type of story again and always have felt it was her best.

A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR is a delightful tale full of adventure, wit and excitement, with characters that are well-rounded and fully realized. I adored Nicholas' enthusiasm about modern technology and Dougless' soft-heartedness is very endearing. And even though she comes across as a pushover at the beginning, it is this vulnerability that endeared her to me, for here is a woman who aimed to please everyone, especially her too-perfect family, all her life and then she finally meets this arrogant aristocrat who appreciates her for what she is and doesn't find her wanting. And the love that develops between them is so sweet that I found myself crying in some part, half-dreading to get to the part when they would be separated.

This book is so worth the read. I've read a few medieval romances and I must say that this is one of the best. Sure, the plot is nothing unique - knight in shining armor rescues damsel in distress, but what makes this an extraordinary novel is the vibrant characters, well-detailed descriptions and just the sheer poignancy of the story that is guaranteed to enthrall.

Saw the cover of this book and it brought back memories of the older romance novels I read as a teen. So, I decided to pick it up.

It was a very quick read and I enjoyed the story itself, but the female character was...sad, bad not that great?? I mean she spent so much time mooning over her ex boyfriend who was more interested in his daughter then her and all the things she had done "wrong" to make him break up with her. He left her stranded with nothing and somehow it was her fault.

It made her a little unbelievable. However, I did finish the book because I wanted to see if she was able to help her "true love"...

This is one of my most favorite books! In fact, I have a copy in my home that I refuse to give up! Both my sisters and my daughter have read this book multiple times and I have to say that it is just as good the 5+ time around as it was when we first read it. It is such a funny book with a cast of characters that are unforgettable. It is bittersweet at the end for me but I dont want to ruin the story. It is still the most UNFORGETTABLE book I have ever read and believe me I have read for over 30 years

This is a great book. It is the one that started me on romance and of course time travel ones too. It captured my heart, my laughter and my tears. The ending is bittersweet, but in the ultimate end you sigh in contentment and just close the book and hold it to your breast.

I know someone has already posted what the book is about, so I'll skip that part.....
I was browsing the discussion forum and saw that this one is recommended by several readers in a thread. I got it and to tell you how good, I lost my copy at a restaurant when I was only halfway through it. I went the same day to the library to hunt it down.
I didn't get bogged down with the history side. Much more of a love story and intriguing. You can relate to the female main character - we all know someone like this if not the reader. :)
The ending was not the predictable, overly sweet one.

Abandoned by cruel fate, lovely, throughly modern Dougless Montgomery lay weeping upon a cold tombstone in an English Church. Suddenly, as if in answer to her prayers, the most extraordinary man appeared.. He ws Nicholas
Stafford, Earl of Thomwyck... and according to his tombstone he died in 1564. Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, he was magnificent. Drawn to his side by a bond so sudden and compelling it overshadowed reason. Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle; a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect, fascinating, just the way she was. Yet she could not imagine how strong were the chains that tied them to the past....or the grand adventure that lay before them....

One of my personal favorites. A touch of the now, a touch of the past and touch of what comes. A must read for Jude Deveraux new comers, a must reread for all Jude fans!

The Meaning of"A Knight in Shining Armor": A person, usually a man, who comes to the aid of another, usually a woman, in a gallant and courteous manner.

A Knight in Shining Armor

Jude Deveraux's beloved bestseller has captivated readers the world over; now in a special edition featuring new material, this timeless love story greets a new generation. Abandoned by her lover, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery finds herself alone and brokenhearted in an old English church. She never dreamed that a love more powerful than time awaited her there...until Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck, a sixteenth-century knight, appeared. Drawn to him by a bond so sudden and compelling that it defied reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect just as she was. But she could not know how strong were the chains that tied them to the past -- or the grand adventure that lay before them.

Vacationing in England with her lover, Robert, and his spoiled teenage daughter, heroine Dougless Montgomery is abandoned by them in a remote country churchyard near the tomb of Nicholas Stafford, an earl who died in 1564. Almost immediately, an armor-clad swashbuckler materializes--Nicholas himself, reincarnated in the 20th century to clear his reputation, having been unjustly convicted of treason. Intrigued by his plight, Dougless agrees to help Nicholas learn his accuser's identity and restore his good name. They become lovers, and their adventures briefly lead Dougless back to the 1560s, allowing Deveraux to portray that period from a contemporary woman's perspective, as well as 1988 through the eyes of a confounded Elizabethan nobleman. Well-detailed historical highlights and a heartwarming conclusion will enhance the novel's commercial appeal to those Deveraux fans willing to lay out the extra cash for froth bound in hardcover
