I can knit basic things, but now  I'm inspired I want to knit my new grandbabies hats. I have a first granddaughter she is 6 months and I want to make a cute girly winter hat, any suggestions, not to hardnow. I also can crochet but in general I like the looks of knitting better. Help me someone

Hope

Hello

I am currently working on a shrug type sweater made of Debbie Bliss alpaca silk teal green delicious yarn, I just finished a oatmeal colored cashmere sweater, I made my granny two pair of socks using the magic loop technique which I loved :) and am currently working on cotton dishcloths that I plan to allow my 3 daughters to dye for me using kool aid :)

Melissa from California

PS I love being able to listen to audio books that I put onto my ipod and then swap them on the sister site swapacd while I am knitting, as well as using the book covers available from paperbackswap because they hold my paperback book open and flat while I am able to read and knit at the same time.

My 2 projects are fingerless gloves and a sparkley scarf.  I just got a new pattern and yarn for my first blouse.

Hey I was just looking at some of the blogs and I found someone had done a clog that looked really cool, has anyone here done them, are they hard and does anyone know where you can get the pattern?

Hope, if you're talking about the felted clogs I made, the pattern is from Fiber Trends. You can order it from your local knitting store or a store online (it's $5). (http://www.fibertrends.com/viewer/patterns/AC33x.html ) There is also a pattern specifically for the child's sizes.

If you can knit and purl, turn a row (i.e. short rwo knitting - instructions are given), and knit in the round (there are instructions for knitting on straight needles but that's actually more difficult in my opinion) you should be able to handle the clogs. I was still really new to knitting when I did mine.

The most important piece of advice - TRUST THE PATTERN! It may seem like you're doing something really strange and you wonder how on earth these will turn out to be something you can wear on your feet, but if you just follow along with the pattern exactly, all will be come clear.

I ran out of yarn to knit some of other projects I want to start (all my money is going for my pets which is my first hobby) so I started working again on learning how to crochet with some of my leftovers.  My next project I want to do is a multi-squared knitted afgan.  Melita

Does any one have a simple and fast baby afghan pattern for a beginning knitter?  I just know the basics nothing to complicated please!  Have done lots of dishclothes and slippers now want to try something else!

There is a fairly easy baby afghan pattern on the Debbie Macomber's website under the knitters group.  I made one for my niece's baby.  It is just knitting and purling.  It ends up looking like blocks.  I like it because it is not a loose knit.  I made a different afghan for a baby once>  It was a loose crochet pattern.  The baby got the yarn twisted around her finger.  So as a result I only make a solid pattern that is not a loose pattern.

I am working on a sock right now.  I have knit 3 other socks but all ended up being too large.  The one I am knitting now is on size 1 needles.  It is taking me a long time but it looks like it will at least fit.

I have a prayer shawl project going all the time - it is easy and not intense .  You can find the instructions at  www.shawlministry.com/instructions.html

I also knit them as celebration shawls for new babies and weddings.  Great gift.  I use various types of yarns in each shawl and everyone seems to like them.

Hi, I learned to knit a long time ago and was never very good at finishing my projects.

But a couple of years ago I decided as my New Years Resolution to make little sweaters for Guideposts Knit for Kids and since I have made about 52 sweaters for them.  I make them with circular needles in a pattern that starts at the neck and works down.  I like this pattern as there is no sewing to do at the finish.  Yeh!  It's a raglan sleeve pattern.  Really cute and I make them usually from size 4-6.

I also make Prayer Shawls with Lion Brand Homespun yarn.  They are a simple pattern of K3, P3.  Sort of a three stitch seed stitch, made with size 13 circular needles.  They come out so pretty.  I've made seven so far.

I alternate between knitting with hand-piecing my quilt tops, reading (of course), and scrapbooking.

Keep knitting as there's always something to do.

Sally, I would love to find a copy of that sweater pattern - is it available on-line?

I have a ton of yarn waiting for me at the moment.  I really need to get back into knitting asap!!

I am just learning how to knit and want to make some baby afgans but really need some easy patterns to start with until I get the hang of it.  Anyone got something simple I can make?

I am new to this forum so perhaps this has already been posted, but for a quick and simple project, consider a knitted dishcloth using cotton yarn such as 'Peaches and Creme".  I found this cool site (see below) that gives directions for a cloth using ONLY knit and purl stitches.

I made the dishcloth with the state of Texas on it and it tuned out terrific.  There are patterns for all the states and 5 Canadian provinces, as well as lots of other symbols.  Even kids could make these, but they are fun for anyone.  A cotton knit dishcloth is very sturdy and cheap to make too....my friends love them.
