The 464 page (red, 1996) hardcover with new Index is the preferred edition. Scientology interfered with the books first (1987) and 2nd (1992, paperback) editions, forcing the book to be rushed to print on both occasions. Still, an excellent book, packed with information and insight. IMO, there is no other book like it. Get the the hardbound '96 edition if possible.
