Excellent book, the prequel to The Mists of Avalon. The story goes into detail of the life of Viviane.

Escape your daily grind and voyage to the land of Avalon. This is part of a series of fantasy books that take place in the time of King Arthur. Very engaging and hard to put down.

A good story about the Island of Avalon and the history of Brittania. Well worth the read.

Journey to a time before King Arthur...to a world called Avalon--a fantastic isle of golden vales and silver mist, where destinies are changed and legends born...

From Library Journal
This three-part fantasy, set in Roman-occupied Britain, creates the link between The Forest House and The Mists of Avalon and should satisfy fans of both those books. Spanning almost 400 years, it tells the stories of the high priestesses and ladies of Avalon. Recommended for fantasy collections.

A novel that spans the creation of Avalon itself, this book tells the story of three remarkable women who alter the fortunes of Roman Britain as they fight to reclaim the magic and traditions of a once glorious past.

as usual, nothing compares to Mists of Avalon but i still found this backstory to be enjoyable reading.

I Liked the Mists of Avalon. I thought reading back into history about the Isle of Avalon and the previous ladies who ruled it was going to be a good read. I can't say it was horrible but she has a whole series of books that go back farther and farther into the history of it and each girl's story is the same as the one before it. I found it all repetitive and dull.

I would recommend picking one of the ____ of Avalon books to read such as Priestess of Avalon, Lady of Avalon, The Forest House, Daughter of Avalon, Etc Just one would clue ya in on what happened. Otherwise. It's like beating a dead horse.
