I wish Ms. Matthews would draw a family tree like M. A. Nichols. It helps keep the characters and families straight. This is especially true since the books are written (and read) over time.

Like all of this author's books, this one is engaging from the start. A young woman from the West Country is having her first season in Bath. She seems to be retiring and loathe to bring attention to herself. However, when animals are in need, she steps forward.

Although Hannah is looking for a like-minded gentleman to marry, James Beresford, Viscount St. Clare, pays particular attention to Hannah. He is noted for his cold exterior, and Hannah is shocked that he would be interested in her. This novel utilizes the PRIDE AND PREJUDICE trope of the male realizing that the lady he is interested in is not his equal.

The writing is terrific, and the pacing keeps the story lively. The next book in this series is scheduled for release in August 2025.
