On her deathbed, the sister of Lady Sarah Spenser begs Sarah to tell no one that her nephew is illegitimate. Sarah swears on her mothers grave that no one will know Andrew is the offspring of her beloved sister and her callous seducer.

Upon her return home, the entire district believes Andrew is her own bastard. Because of the gossip, she releases her betrothed, Justin Tolbert, from their engagement.

Justin, now the Earl of Wynfield, returns from the Napoleonic Wars with an amputated foot and a pile of debts left by his father and older brother.

Thinking she can benefit from his financial trouble, Sarah proposes to marry Justin and settle all of his family's debts in exchange for seeing her foster son accepted by society. Since she can't tell her husband why she broke their previous engagement and supposedly bore a child, Justin assumes the marriage to be a purely business arrangement to save his estate.

Description from the back of the book:

Justin Tolbert was a war hero and the new Earl of Wynfield, but he was not the same man Lady Sarah Spenser once knew...

Suddenly, too vividly, Sarah remembered the night he had first asked her to dance. The London ballroom had been overcrowded, its heat stifling. Justin had been wearing his uniform, the handsome regimentals setting off the perfection of his strong body and his still-boyish face. She had thought then that there was no man more handsome in the room. She had stepped willingly into his arms, and when the music had begun, she had drifted, following his lead. They had moved together without conscious thought. As if the two of them had been created to dance together...

Would they ever do that again...?

Well loved. Has some warping to the corners. In pretty good shape however.
