I have no doubt that the author researched this historical romance thoroghly, and it shows. It's interesting to see how the roles of women have changed throughout the years.
The heroine is totally dependent upon her father for everything, including her reputation, which is everything in medieval times. Her problem is - if she betrays her awful, abusive, murdering father, she herself is ruined; what a cunundrum. Thank goodness for heroes, saving the heroine and saving the day.

The beauty and grace of Elianne du Hommet-the penniless daughter of the local sheriff-entices Josce as no woman's charms have ever done...and renders weak a warrior renowned for his strength.
