It is a time of great upheaval in both the North and the South, a time when loyalty is defined by action. So when Paul Bristol returns home from Europe, he knows he will have to get involved in the war despite the fact that he doesn't really agree with "the Cause". Then he receives a request: As an artist and photographer, would he go to the battlefront and capture Confederate bravery on film? Relieved to find a way to serve without fighting, Paul agrees. There is only one problem: Finding an assistant trained in photography will be far from easy.
Bristol realizes time constraints have left him little choice but to accept an independent young woman, Frankie Aimes, for the job. And so the two load up their equipment and head for the dangers of the battlefield.
But there is another danger hanging over their heads, a danger Bristol knows nothing about, for Frankie is hiding a secret that could get them both killed if it is discovered!
