Caroline, an affluent African American artist, bumps into Brian, a white former cop who is now a co-founder of the company where Caroline is rushing to an interview. It is love at first site for both Caroline and Brian. Caroline has a more difficult time than Brian dealing with the pressures that interracial couples often face. Many times, I wanted to shake Caroline. Her often irrational fears/arguments about what others think about her relationship with Brian feel over-the-top and unbelievable for an affluent African American woman of today. There are many characters introduced in the story and several subplots which make this a very long and slow-moving story. While I ultimately enjoyed the book, I feel the story could have been told in half of the 443 pages.

A very unusual but interesting book that I enjoyed reading and would certainly encourage those that read this book to have a open mind and see where it goes. Anything is possible when you open your heart to love and this is eventually what Caroline did.
