I was riveted by this book! I stayed tense, wound up and afraid. On the one hand I couldn't put it down, on the other hand I occasionally HAD to make myself put it down and take a break to breathe. It scared me but it is also a bittersweet journey. The ending was sad but not without joy, as well. The author posted a spoiler alert on his FB page along with a pic of his dog (Laika) that helped me to trust him: "fictional Laika survives (DUH) and even gets to bite a bad guy, which is only fair." I was glad to have this spoiler alert or I am not sure I could have withstood the constant mounting anxiety and fear. I do, however feel he threw a curve ball in a different way that still got me. Despite that, this was a page turning thriller and I look forward to whatever Mr. Adams comes up with next.
