Title:

Lea's Escalloped Apples

Dish: Desserts
Dish Type: Fruits
Difficulty: 1 / 10
Servings: 4 side dishes
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. - apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/2 cup - flour
  • 1/4 cup - fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup - sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. - grated cinnamon or to taste
  • 1/8 tsp. - ground allspice
  • 1/16 tsp. - ground cloves
  • 4-5 Tbsp. - butter, cut up
Directions

Mix apples, lemon juice, sugar and spices.

Place in buttered ovenproof baker. Dot with butter morsels.

Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, checking periodically and adding water if needed.

Remove foil and bake for additional 10 minutes. Stir.

This serves 4 as dessert.

Notes

I also increase the volumes as we pick apples in the fall for canning. This blend can be mashed for the tastiest turnovers. With the additional of alittle water and thickening

makes excellent pie filling or cobblers with cranberries and walnuts. And they are just plain flavorful and spicy as they are. Often increase volume and serve at pot lucks and gatherings in the winter- a special treat from the usual dishes.
