I was standing near the kitchen stove, waiting for the coffee to brew and the poached eggs to poach. The french bread was toasted and buttered and rested on the blue and white flowered plate before me. I hadn't eaten since late afternoon of the day before, and the sides of my stomach felt as though they had been crazy-glued together during the night.

Unfortunately, this was not a concern for my Siamese cat, LeeLoo.

Looking at me with crossed eyes the color of a summer sky, he wished me a musical good morning. Familiar with his use of the amenities, I acknowledged him in kind. He then slammed his wiry cat body hard against my legs, where he discovered two socks attached below. I call them feet but LeeLoo has no name, only looking upon them as fair game.

The drill is this: first he admires the wares. Then he drops down in ecstasy because he just can't help himself. Next, it is the head roll, bopping the foot in increasingly faster bops. Then it is the paw: pat, pat, pat. It is all downhill from that point.

He then progresses to a variation on a computer click and drag...followed by a love bite. My mind thinks 'delete' as I glare at him after loudly yelling his name.

How did this all end? Grabbing LeeLoo up in a fast ride to my shoulder, I told him how smart he was. He, on the other hand, managed to wiggle around until he hung upside down, never losing that important eye contact a cat instinctively knows how to do. I melted - of course.

I ate a cold breakfast.

I enjoyed that. I had a Siamese when I was a teenager. Her name was Tint-A-Ling Confucious. We called her Ting. She used to nip at my mothers ankles when she was making lunches in the morning until she would give her some lunch meat.

Ting was more-than-likely one of LeeLoo's great, great, great (etc.) ancestors. Siamese (and Snowshoe Cats!) seem to be the reigning clowns of the cat kingdom...
