The story of the tragic sinking of the USS Juneau. But the real story is the breakdown of communications that resulted in the survivors being abandoned fo almost a week in shark infested waters with no food or water. The book relies on the survivors accounts of what happened after the ship was sunk. You can feel the frustration and the pain these men felt as they thought that they had all been forgotten. From the first moment after the sinking when other ships in their convoy didn't attempt any rescue up to the time they spotted aircraft that seems to ignore them. The USS Juneau's crew included the five Sullivan boys and four Rogers boys (who thankfully were able to transfer two of their brothers to another ship prior to the sinking of the Juneau). This is a must read book for Naval and WW II history buffs.
