Bat Masterson was lucky enough to live well into the 20th century and as a writer, was able to frame and mold his own legend. Now, Bat Masterson is less well-known than some of his contemporaries, such as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. Masterson was a very famous shooter. One of his most famous was in Dodge City in 1878, when his brother and town marshal, Ed Masterson was killed. Masterson was also part of the Earp Vendetta Ride that took place after the shootout at the OK Corral. He was one of those Americans that did a bit of everything over his life. In the 1960s, there was even a television series about him.
