Lenore was recommended to me since I am a huge fan of Jhonen Vasquez's work of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Sadly, I am at best unimpressed with Roman Dirge's Lenore.
The good: I absolutely love the concept of Lenore. She's dead, if you haven't figured that out yet, and based on Edgar Allan Poe's lost love Lenore. The cover is also very cool.
The bad: It's vapid. There is almost no substance to any of the comics, and most are literally blank squares on the page meant to build intensity in the strip, but instead just comes across as empty. It's in black and white, which really doesn't work for me personally. Most of the side characters are unexplored and Lenore is not very well developed in personality or storyline.
The ugly: It's boring. I hate to say it, but it really is. I wanted to like Lenore. I wanted to fall in love with her, but I found myself wishing I had the TV remote in my hand instead. None of the comics are intriguing, or even entertaining.
The hideous: I want the 30 minutes I spent reading this back.
This is a cute book in a demented way. It's made up of comic issues 1-4 about Lenore (who happens to be little dead girl). There are also comics on other varies creatures like Soilent Green, the boy with his heart in a box, Mr. Puffy and others. Lenore doesn't seem to be the brightest dead girl out there and tends to do some sick and twisted things. Quite disturbing sometimes and on the other times it can be quite funny. This is not a book for everyone. If you do not like to read things that are dark or demented then I wouldn't recommend this series. If you can take it with a grain of salt and enjoy it for what it is then I would say to go for it!
A collection of dark comics starring Lenore, the dead girl, named after Edgar Allan Poe's "Lenore". Lenore finds herself in all sorts of interesting situations, from pet-sitting, babysitting, to hosting a slumber party. A quick, perverse read. Definitely NOT for children!
