There's a new book coming out on Aug 3rd called "Summers at Blue Lake" DH is still reading the ARC and gives it a B- . It's women's fiction (author is being compared to Shreeve and Berg). It's not really our cup of tea, but I'm guessing it might be pretty popular with the lit/fic crowd. It's not strictly GLBT, but it does focus somewhat on the main characters' grandmother and her lover/partner. Summers at Blue Lake: A Novel by Jill Althouse-Wood That's the only book recommendation I can think of right now... other than that I'll send you "fellow bookseller, we can get through this week vibes" :) |

Right now I'm reading this book: This Is What Lesbian Looks Like: Dyke Activists Take on the 21st Century Isbn/1563411164 Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/This-What-Lesbian-Looks-Like/dp/1563411164/ref=sr_1_1/002-7514334-8925660?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184900348&sr=8-1 I'm really enjoying this book - and the different writers have been giving me a lot to think about regarding what exactly a lesbian/woman/female is...but I'm not sure if that's the kind of book your group is looking for. |

Get OUT!! LOL I'm sitting here yelling in my head, no way, too cool, so forth & so on. Please tell her that I'm really, really getting a lot out of her book. I was telling my DP she even should read it because it really has opened my mind up to a lot of different viewpoints about being a woman/lesbian/activist. Wow, this is actually a really cool coincidence (I was actually thinking of trying to email her & let her know how cool of a book I think it is.) |

Lauren...relax! Our group took turns being the moderator. I was pretty nervous when it came to my turn. I was lucky that the book had questions in the back so I used those..Whew! I went online and there are several website on the topic. Here's one to get you started. http://www.book-clubs-resource.com/running/ You'll do fine...break a leg! |

Lauren - Leading a meeting can be difficult - I know because DP is the chair of our Out & Affirmation Center's steering committee. Sorry that this book meeting was a hard one for you, I'd say chalk it up to experience and keep on keeping on. I'm sure Kris can give you a lot of tips on how to lead this meeting and eventually you can make it your own. Plus with all the stuff you had to do with HP, I'm sure it didn't make this book meeting any easier. If Kris wouldn't mind you giving out her email addy to me in a PM, I would love to be able to write her & let her know that this late-in-life-lesbo really finds this book relevant. I'm still amazed at how small the world really can be at times. :-) I'm glad that you & your partner were only witnesses & not involved in an accident! Thank goodness. Hang in there! |
