Barclay is one of my favorite commentators. He seems to be a bit on the "liberal" side, and it is evident in his earlier commentaries that he has trouble accepting divine intervention such as the virgin birth and the miracles of Jesus as being literal. HOWEVER, he has definitely studied and finds great insights into both the gospels and the epistles. As Romans is one of the longest prolonged arguments in Paul's writings, this book is full of helpful insights into the universiality of Christ's love, appropriate behavior for a believer, and the new reality the gospel brings to the world.
