A facet of Lincoln's life that is rarely explored. This was an interesting, well-researched read. Starts with his humble/poor beginnings. He lost his mother when he was nine YO, religious upbringing was more revival-type. He left his father's as soon as he was legally able to. At that point he was an atheist (many referred to him as an "infidel". He bore the stigma of being the child of a bastard (haunted him much of his life). He felt God had cursed him. This book explores the journey from that point to faith - although he never officially joined an established church. Struggling with depression all his life as well as many personal losses and burdens of the Civil War, this is an interesting look into what many people experience in some degree in their faith journey. Well worth the time to read this one.
