'The atmosphere heated up the outside of the ship significantly. The computer adjusted the cooling system to compensate. At about 20,000 feet the winds started slamming against the craft. The computer was unable to compensate for the irregular variations in the wind speed. It had never encountered winds of this magnitude before. Then the snow started. This was also an unknown to the computer. It iced the delicate mapping sensors and cameras that typically guided the ship through rough terrain. The computer was flying blind. At 10,000 feet the ship skimmed the side of a mountain ripping the exterior door from the fuselage. The ship continued its downward path and collided with the side of another mountain. The ship slid down the slope of the mountain digging a deep trench in the snow and knocking over the small evergreens in its path. It came to a sudden halt as it slammed against a large grove of Ponderosa pines. Snow fell from the trees and covered the large craft. The computer shut off the collision alarm and the ship was silent. Then the computer began issuing a distress signal in accordance with its crash protocol.'« less
