After the success of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books, some authors wrote similar books about Laura's Ma, grandmother, and great grandmother (as well as her daughter). This is the second book about Laura's Ma. They very much have the look and feel of Little House books and they appear to have at least some basis in fact.
