I'd suggest Elizabeth Berg, Dorothea Benton Frank, Patricia Gaffney, Jessica Barksdale Inclan, Joshiln Jackson, Cassandra King, Jennifer McMahon, Mary Alice Monroe, Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve, Nancy Thayer, and Karen White.

To me, these all fall in the contemporary genre.
