I just finished Blackbird by Jennifer Lauck.  Very sad story about a little girl.  Had me wanting to strangle her stepmom towards the end. I liked it so much I ordered the sequl Still Waters.

I just finished Murderous Memories:  One Woman's Hellish Battle to Save Herself by Jean Small Brinson.  In this book she writes about the horrific abuse she, her mother, and her siblings endured at the hands of her father, her multiple personalities, and her father's murder.

I have "It's always Something" - by Gilda Radner.  It is very sad.  She was such a courageous woman who battled ovarian cancer.  I loved it.  Stayed up late into the night until I finished it.

I have four really good ones (and in excellent condition) on my shelf:

Stolen Lives by Malika Oufkir (hardcover with dust jacket)

The Color of Water by James McBride (hardcover; not printed with dust jacket)

Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen (gift-quality hardcover)

I just finished ready Devil in the White City.

A great read! Informational as well as exciting.

It 's not really a biography as such, but it is about the men involved in the creation of the Chicago World's Fair based on information compiled from personal letters, newpaper articles and biographies.

The devil in the title refers to a serial killer living in Chicago at the same time as the fair. (Another mini-biography within the book.)

I would highly recommended "A Rip in Heaven".  It's a memoir of murder on the Mississippi River and more importantly its aftermath.  It really is an unforgettable story.  Check out my bookshelf, I think its still available.

If your still looking, I have a few to choose from on my book list.  Check it out.  I recomend "A Rip In Heaven" or perhaps "Graves End" if you want a little scare.

We just read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius in my book club and I posted it.  It was strange, but very good.  Short listed for the Pulitzer.

I also love anything by Rick Bragg, like All Over But the Shoutin' is my all-time favorite.

I have All Over But the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg on my shelf. I enjoyed reading this memoir. Bragg grew up dirt poor in the south and went on to win a Pulitizer for Journalism.
