Hi, I'm looking for recommendations on chapter books (books elementary school kids can read on their own, but hopefully books above the "magic tree house" and "junie b. jones" reading level), that deal with transportation. Cars, ships, pirates, the Titanic -- fiction about these and other forms of transportation. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, the Twenty-One Balloons is perfect, even though the transportation is a balloon instead of a car or ship. (Also, Ken Opel's Airborne would work if they child was old enough, but he's too young for it.) Thanks! Lisa |

There is a hello reader on the Titanic that has pictures of them recoving it. It is a level 3 or4 I think. My daughter read it either the end of 3rd or the beginning of 4th and really enjoyed it. The name of it is Finding the Titanic. Kerry has this one and another one about the Titanic on her shelf and is offering a 3 for 1 if my memory is right. I have a book posted called True Sea Stories by Henry Brook. My husband read it to my boys (8 & 10) and they enjoyed it very much. It is a Scholastic book but published by Usbourne (love their books!). I think the average 3rd through 6th grader could read it. Here's the description on the back of the book: The sea has always been a place of mystery, discovery and fear. For thousands of years it has tested those people daring enough to sail out into its vastness. From shipwrecks to submarine attacks, voyages without maps and thrilling salvage operations, these ten stories of maritime adventure explore the incredible lure of the world's oceans. If you're interested, you can pick an extra book off my shelf as a freebie! (just order the main book and PM me with what else you would like me to throw in.) |
