Hi there!

I'm new to paperback swap as of THIS WEEK, but am already addicted! I've seen this already as a great resource for us, as homeschoolers and most especially in this pre-holiday season. I'm wanting to do a lot of books for my boys, ages 8, 4, and 3 for Christmas.

Specifically, I'm looking into the Magic Treehouse series and the Boxcar Children series for my 8yo. I ordered #s 1 and 2 and 5 already from the Magic Treehouse series, but if you have 3 and 4 on a 2-for-1 special - or any other higher numbers and are willing to make a deal, let me know!

Also, I'd love the first few Boxcar Children. I've seen that there are two separate series, the alter-ego being labelled "special", and I think for now we'll stick with the "regular" series to make sure he enjoys it. If you have single-digit books from this series and are willing to make a deal, let me know!

For our homeschool and reading "free time" we enjoy classics and other chapter books. My oldest just finished reading "The BFG" by Roald Dahl and would be interested in more books by this author, or similar authors. E.B.White is a favorite around here, and I'm open to suggestions as well! Star Wars, Digimon, Arthur chapter books....

I don't have a ton of credits at this point, and don't want to pay $3.45 for a credit to get a book I can buy for cheaper than that on Amazon, but the kids are really into books right now and I'd love to foster their love of reading!! Thanks for helping me out, and contact me with what you have! I'm all out of credits at the moment, and would like the next two or three to go towards the two series I mentioned, but other than that I'm open right now. (I do have 3 books mailed that I should get credit for any day!! YAY! And I'm adding more books tonight....)

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I'm, obviously, also new to the forum and would love to pop in and just chat with you all some times. :) We're late nighters around here. See you around the site!

the 'special' in the boxcar children go along with the newer books but most of the 'regular' series is new too...there were only mabye 15 or so in the original old-fashioned ones. I'm 40 and stil enjoy reading these but a real fan (even a kid) will be able to tell the c hanges though the general characteristics of the kids remain the same. for instance, violet is extremely shy and frail in the 'original' ones in that she scares easily and is more delicate..in the newer ones she's still a bit shy but overcomes it. benny also loses his temper tantrums and they all eat healthier L OL! also, henry drops down in age from around 16 to 14 so he' s not driving any longer; also the adults aren't old and frail and tiring easily..dear aunt jane who's practically on her death bed in one of the originals suddenly leads canoe trips in the  newer series!

anyways, sorry got carried away; I'm a huge fan of this series and am slowly but surely b uilding my collection! but just wanted to let you know that the 'specials' are the only ones in the 'new' series.

Thanks for posting Susanna! I'd just kind of assumed they were the same basically, but maybe on a higher reading level, or the usuals are paperback and these are hardback, or they're just longer even if they aren't on a higher level, or something like that. Didn't realize they were a little "different" as well - that's great to know, because my 8yo does *not* deal with subtle changes like that well. LOL He'd have a meltdown! We'll stick to the "regular" series for now then. (It goes to over 100 books, so I'm guessing we're safe for at least a while.... LOL)

I came back here to add - From the Magic Treehouse series: I just ordered book 2 today (Friday). Book 1 I ordered this past Sunday and have had no response yet. If someone has books 1-4 (or any in that area) and will do a 2-for-1 or similar deal on them, let me know and I can cancel these that I already have on my "waiting list".

Thanks again paperbackers!

well the first several in the 'regular' series are the original older ones..I'll check and see if I can rmember where the newer storyline picks up. it's fine once you realize the first ones were written in the 60's or 70's era ..

ETA" ok, the first 19 are the older ones that I think were written by Gertrude Chandler Warner...starting with #20 are the more recent ones. hope that  helps..maybe someone on the children's books forum would know better..I don't recall much difference in the specials but I'm also an adult reading these and was already an adult when they came out! :-)

Okay! LOL I'll just read them along with him and know to pay attention to the change when it happens. Book 19 is a ways off... he's also the type that will want to read them in order. LOL

I've never read them either, though my dh loved them as a kid - hence the reason we're getting them for him. ;-)

Thanks again!

Hi DaLynn,  I too am pretty new to PBS (2-3weeks) and also am a homeschooling mom (six kids, 4 school age).  We really love reading more classic kids literature here, too.  I just posted a good one today, Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes (she's a favorite author here at our house.)

I'm going to check out your bookshelf and invite you to take a peek at mine, although, right now my children's books a bit sparse...I seem to be adding things slowly but surely.  Can I put you on my buddy list?

Dalynn,

I have 2 aurthur chapter books, one magic tree house Twister on tuesday and lots of other kids books. I would be willing to do 5 books for 3 credits.  By the way welcome! I love this site. I know you are out of credits right now, so just let me know if you later would like to do this. Jean

I didn't write exactly which books those were and I guess I should keep track!! LOL THANKS!! (I think it was... order BXC 5 and get damaged 1 and 3, and order MTH... 3? and get... 6? free. Something like that. Remind me please!!) I need to mark them off my list and plan this a little better. ROFL
