We have a 4 yr old who will be going to Kindergarten in the fall and I am looking for ideas on books that are easy for him to learn to read.  We bought one of the Penguin Young Readers books called "On the Farm" today and he has learned how to read it and can read the whole thing without any help.  Needless to say, he was proud of himself.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Theresa

The step into reading series is wonderful. So many choices depending on the child's interest. My kids really enjoyed the magic tree house series and anything by Matt Christopher but these are probably a little ahead of independent reading for a 4 year old.

I got started reading the funnies in the newspaper. I guess the language is fairly simple. The words and pictures were fun.
