At the end of this book, a small sweet revelation has me glowing-- not because it was really a page turner in the traditional sense. The jacket summarizes the story so there are no real surprises, but the basic structure of this novel is done very, very compellingly. There is something about a chapter-by-chapter look at various characters' relationship to the main character-- a phlandering middle aged retired cop, who you should find a schmuck for many of his behaviors, but who shines as the star of a collective of women who relate to each other through him. This book is satisfying like a gourmet, healthy meal, and left me wondering about how much we affect people simply by being who we are. A truly worthwhile read.
