I've had 3 books lost in a row - has anyone else noticed this going on?

I will be asking the mailman about this, but I doubt it is her because she always brings anything that might be a book up to the door because my mailbox leaks.

You could just be having a run of bad luck.

It could also be that somewhere in the route the mail to you is being eaten by the PO for whatever reason. Possibly the nearest big sorting center wher most of your mail would go.

I have 4 books that are going to go lost this weekend. I really really wanted them, too. All were WL books. I am bummed. 3 of them were sent with DC and 2 of those have never been scanned and the other was only scanned at the first PO. I am hating this pattern.

I just checked my transaction list and I haven't had a lost book since May, when a book I ordered a month earlier went lost. Still haven't gotten that one. I send a lot of books and order quite a few too, and lost books are a really rare thing for me. So, I guess the short answer to your question would be "No. I haven't noticed this going on." Hope your books that are MIA make it safely really soon!

I've had three books mailed to me go lost since July, but they all arrived 5-6 weeks out.  No damage, nothing strange about the wrapper, postmarks were when the senders said they'd mailed.  They just showed up late.  Plenty of books have shown up in the interim too, so it's not like the media mail is getting dumped into a bin in the back of the PO.

I have one that I sent out that's about to go lost.  I used DC, but it was never scanned in anywhere.  I can't imagine where that one is.

i've been having quite a few go lost lately.  they seem to show up a couple days after they go lost - and then i see the postmark that tells me that the book was mailed a couple weeks late.

i've really noticed an increase in books mailed late.  not just a day late - but weeks late.  it's pretty frustrating since most of what i've been ordering lately is just wish list items.

I'm adding that books to me are getting lost, and so are books from me for the past two months. I don't live in a remote area (San Francisco) and all of the lost book posts are starting to worry me :-(

I had one that "went lost" last week, funny thing was that it was reposted almost immediately after I got the lost email. So I'm just waiting to see if it shows up this time.

I have noticed an increase in the time it is taking books to get to me (and from me!).  I now have 8 books on their way to me, some having been in mail for 3 weeks now!  Up until now the average time in transit (either to or from me) was 1.5 weeks, so I have noticed a significant increase in the time the books are in the postal system!

You can blame the PO for some but I believe with the increase in new members we will see more "lost" that were never actually mailed, or were accidently sent to other members.
I had one "lost" that the member emailed to say that she had 2 books to mail and sent them to the same member-she also wrote that she would was now mailing the book to me--she never did ,and is now no longer a member.
Recently a book coming to me was placed in a Box-Of Books to another member (addressed to me and wrapped in PBS label).
luckily the member who received the book sent it on--so that had a positive result.

I've had two go lost (receiving) in the last couple of months.  However, one of them showed up on Satruday and it was post marked July 24.  It was well wrapped and not a very thick book.  I couldn't understand it.  It was mailed from inside the continetal US so it's not like it cam from HI or anything.

The other one was mailed from my same city to me.  It would have been faster and probably cheaper to do the swap in person.

And what is the protocol on this situation?
I had one (sent to me ) lost over a year ago and then another last week.
Neither of the senders contacted me about it.  I just think it would be nice to send a pm and saying "I dont know what happened, I mailed it like I do everything else".  You know what I mean.
This last member has over 400 books and has been a member for almost 2 yrs; and has a lot of swaps under her belt.  If she has a lot of books going out she probably has not even noticed that one has gone astray.
I started to pm her, but ended up just deleting it; why should I bother if she does not care.

2 in over 2 years is pretty good, so I really cant complain about that; I would have just liked an acknowledgement.

I have mailed and received a lot of books with no problem, but have just had two that I requested declared lost in the mail and it looks like a third one is also about to be declared lost.  Also I recently had one that I mailed declared lost.  The funny thing was that after successfully mailing books to Alaska, Puerto Rico, an Air Force base in Germany, etc. the lost book went to a town about 20 miles from me.

I'm waiting for 3 books to come my way, and I'm getting nervous, as nothing is showing up in my mailbox.   I have a book that will be lost in a few days, too.   I've had one book I sent out go lost, but none sent to me have been lost, yet!   I'm like a little addict, running up to my mailbox every morning and coming back all dejected when there are still no books.

I just recieved a "lost" book a few days ago. It had dc so I tracked it from the time it was supposedly sent to me and it had it in my town, thought maybe the mailman was reading it or something, lol. Anyway, when I went and marked it as received I sent the mailer a pm thanking them for the book and she said she was sorry for mailing it late because she hadn't had time to mail it. It was postmarked almost a month after she had marked it mailed. Who doesn't have time to stop by one of those little blue boxes within a month? If for some reason she couldn't leave the house( like house arrest or something) lol she should have had someone else drop it off for her. I sometimes wonder if these people care if the book they are mailing is mailed on time or night and I also wonder what they would say/do if the shoe was on the other foot.

Sometimes I wonder if I am the only one that will only mark a book as mailed AFTER I HAVE ACTUALLY MAILED IT!!

The accountant in me just wanted to point out one possible reason for slower mail lately - Sept 15th was the extended corporate tax return due date and the individual extended due date is coming up on Oct 15th, so maybe there is an increased volume of other mail going that is making the media mail wait a longer than normal?!?! Just a thought.

I've had two that I've sent go lost in the last couple of weeks.  One of them was with the beta test postage, and it never got scanned in anywhere.  The second made it from Texas to California before going lost there.  Glad I used DC!

I just looked at books I mailed in the last week.   There was one day I mailed two books.  One got dropped into the blue box at the PO drive through.  The other one got taken inside to the APC box since it was too big for the slot outside.  The one dropped into the drive through box has been scanned at the main PO in Dallas (I'm in a burb).  The one dropped inside 3 minutes later on the same day has not!

I have to say that this past week or so, books are getting to their destinations faster than ever before. I've been using the PBS online postage/DC almost exclusively and most of my books are getting to their destinations in 2-3 days, halfway across the country. A couple that were in close by states got there the next day--and these were just dropped into a blue box in front of where I work, not even brought to the PO! Weird. I'm not complaining, though!
