When a wagon train from Fort Laramie is attacked by a war party of Oglala Sious, Lieutenant Fergis Kelly flees the scene of the massacre-leaving his young bride, Fanny, at the mercy of the Indians. The Sioux are awed by Fanny's bravery, spare her life, and name her "Real Woman", Ottawa, the Sioux chief, is smitten by her loveliness and proud spirit, but she earns a bitter enemy in the powerful warrior, Bloddy Knife, who vows to destroy her will-and make the bold young beauty his concubine.
